Bank Robber Ordered To Trial
Tuesday, 23 September 2008: Rosehill flop Bank Robber will have to pass stewards scrutiny in a barrier trial before he is permitted to start in the $600,000 Epsom Handicap at Randwick on Saturday week.
Trainer Gai Waterhouse will enter Bank Robber for a trial at Randiwck on Friday after Racing NSW stewards today concluded an inquiry into the disappointing performance of the gelding in the Shannon Stakes at Rosehill last Saturday.
Bank Robber, a big winner of his previous two starts, finished seventh as the $1.45 favourite.
On Monday Waterhouse provided stewards with a veterinary clearance for Bank Robber, indicating that the gelding was found to have pulled up well and that no abnormalities had been detected after Saturday's race.
Waterhouse told an inquiry at Randwick today that apart from Bank Robber being tardy to begin and having to be pushed along to assume the lead, she felt the strong head wind that prevailed at Rosehill may have had some detrimental effect and contributed to his failure to finish off the race.
However stewards ruled that Bank Robber must trial satisfactorily prior to it next race and undergo a further official veterinary examination following the trial.
