Boss chasing more Sydney glory

GOLDEN Slipper-winning jockey Glen Boss will make another hit-and-run mission to Sydney next Saturday to ride Triple Honour in the $1.8 million Doncaster Handicap and Prince De Galles in the $1.8m AJC Derby.
And fellow Hong Kong-based jockey Darren Beadman has secured the prized ride of Derby second favourite Largo Lad after owners sacked regular jockey Craig Williams.
In other racing news:
FORENSICS is a $5 favourite for the Doncaster, with Weekend Hussler ($3.50) not running in the feature mile;
TRAINER Chris Waller is contemplating retiring Honor In War on the eve of the Doncaster Handicap;
FRIDAY CREEK has joined the David Hayes stable; and
LEON Macdonald is yet to secure a jockey for the smart Adelaide filly Serious Speed in the Doncaster.
Trainer Chris Waller was very happy to have booked the services of champion jockey Boss for Triple Honour and
Prince De Galles.
"It is excellent to have Glen riding for us," Waller said.
"No disrespect to the other jockeys that have been riding them in the past but I feel Glen will suit the horses really well.
"Some jockeys don't suit the trainer's style and others do.
"Glen is a real professional. He showed that in the Golden Slipper and I am sure he will do just as good a job for us."
The Rosehill trainer feels Triple Honour will bounce back to his best form on Saturday - form that almost beat Weekend Hussler in the Group One Randwick Guineas (1600m).
"He was slow to begin, over-raced and got caught wide last start in the Hobartville," Waller said.
"I have changed a few things with his work, taken him to the beach and tinkered a little.
"He is probably six months off his best but we are just keeping him ticking over to make sure he is 100 per cent for the Doncaster. His form behind Weekend Hussler looks good and I am expecting something similar in the Doncaster."
While he was pleased with Triple Honour's progress, Waller said he was contemplating retiring Honor In War - the horse who famously beat Takeover Target in a controversial protest in the Group Two Villiers Stakes (1400m).
"He just does not handle wet tracks and it looks like it will be (wet) on Saturday," Waller said.
"We will make a decision tomorrow (today) about what we are going to do with him."
Trainer David Hayes will have two runners in the Doncaster Handicap after Friday Creek joined his stable from trainer John O'Shea.
Hayes will saddle up Molotov and Friday Creek in the time-honoured Randwick mile.
Williams a nose away from glory

CRAIG Williams was given the morning off by trainer David Hayes after riding just one horse before sunrise at Randwick yesterday.
"I want you to be fresh for the big day ahead,'' Hayes told his stable jockey, whose Golden Slipper dream was ruined by a matter of centimeters when Von Costa De Hero fell agonisingly short of eventual winner Sebring.
Williams and Von Costa De Hero had to overcome the widest barrier and looked to have achieved the unthinkable when they set sail for home wide out in the straight, only to run out of petrol.
A dejected Williams spoke to the connections of Von Costa De Hero as winning jockey Glen Boss was cheered by the crowd and Sebring's owners just metres away.
The heart-breaking result cemented what was a frustrating day for the Melbourne-based jockey.
"That's racing,'' said Williams who gave The Sunday Telegraph a sneak peek into his life this week leading up to the meeting.
The day started woefully when Williams was on the end of a verbal spray from trainer Chris Waller after his ride on
Prince De Galles in the Group II Tulloch Stakes (2000m).
Williams went for home too soon, which forced Waller to "voice my disappointment, but in a gentlemanly manner''.
Then
The Fuzz, who was bound for the Sydney Cup,
failed to beat a runner home and finished 26 lengths adrift of Tuesday Joy in the Group I The BMW.
Williams later told stewards "it has to be something internally because when he gave in he gave in quickly''.
Triumph on Von Costa De Hero would have wiped away all the disappointment and frustration.
But Williams praised the effort of Hayes and Von Costa De Hero.
"What a horse, and what a decision by David to pick this horse out for me to ride four weeks ago.
Once again he was right,'' said Williams, as Hayes's stablemates All American (fifth), Hips Don't Lie (seventh) and Reaan (last) finished behind him.
