Stradbroke Handicap plans for Sydney sprinter German Chocolate hinge on a pleasing track gallop on Thursday morning.
Warwick Farm trainer Paul Cave will head to Brisbane with German Chocolate for the $1 million Stradbroke at Eagle Farm on Saturday week if he is satisfied with the four-year-old's work on Thursday.
“That's the plan at the moment,' Cave told Racing and Sports.
“I just want to see how he works on Thursday before putting him on the float.”
German Chocolate kept his Stradbroke bid alive at Randwick last Saturday when he worked home strongly to finish fourth behind Approach The Bench over 1100m under 57.5kg.
German Chocolate has only 52.5kg in the Stradbroke and is assured of a start, sitting in 21st position on the current order of entry.
“I was pleased with his run last Saturday as he has had a mixed preparation going up and back in distance,” Cave said.
“He went to a mile for the Doncaster and then backed up in the All-Aged Stakes.
“The Stradbroke will suit him a lot better.
“He will have only one start in Brisbane in the Stradbroke and then go for a spell.”
Cave has offered the Stradbroke ride on German Chocolate to Peter Robl.
