幻海奇變將於今個星期決定是否退役
English jockey Ted Durcan has recommended another UK start for Kiwi mare Seachange before she is retired to stud.
Durcan found plenty of positives for the connections of Seachange after riding the mare in her UK debut in the Golden Jubilee Stakes al Royal Ascot on Saturday.
Durcan said the barrier draw and cut in the ground played against Seachange's chances in the Group One sprint over the straight six furlongs course.
Seachange jumped from a gate two from the inside rail in the 17-strong field.
The first five placegetters, including Australia's Takeover Target, started from the five barriers closest to the grandstand rail and raced on the most favourable ground.
Seachange came down the middle of the track before weakening to 12th and her beaten margin of 15 and three-quarter lengths with her connections contemplating immediate retirement.
Howver Durcan has given them cause to rethink their plans and press on for at least one more start in England,.
"When Ted climbed on her he said 'this is the barrier draw from hell' and he was right," said Rick Williams, racing manger for Seachange's Australian owner Dick Karreman.
"The track was right against her.
"Ted said it was cutting out too much for her and she couldn't get proper footing.
"He said when she was beaten he looked after her."
Durcan has recommended that the seven-time Group One winner be set for next month's G1 Falmouth Stakes for fillies and mares over 1600m.
"Ted says she should be a good chance in it if she gets good ground," said Williams.
"I'll discuss it with Dick in the next day or two before we make a decision.
"She'll either run in that or be retired."
Seachange is booked to be mated with champion sire Zabeel this spring.
