Desuetude continues to blossom like a Rose
Sheikh Mohammed is likely to dip into his pocket to pay the $50,000 late entry fee for the Golden Rose for Desuetude after the gelding impressed again with a tough win in the $125,000 G3 Canterbury Hurlstone Park RSL Run To The Rose over 1300m at Rosehill today.
“It’s the natural progression so I’ll talk with Ollie [Tait] because it will cost $50,000 [for the late entry fee],” trainer Peter Snowden said.
“It’s going to be a lot harder race in a fortnight, a million dollar race, they’ll come out of the woodwork for that and it is going to be a very competitive race.
“Hopefully he can stay up and we’ll go there with confidence and a horse on the way up.”

Showing his adaptability today, Desuetude sped across the field and took up a forward position, outside the leader, before going for home on straightening and he shot clear but appeared in trouble when Maybe I came out of the pack and headed him but the Crown Lodge-trained galloper fought back bravely to collar the filly in the last few strides.
“He’s a really good chaser, I know you have to get to the front at some stage but he really got there too quickly when he straightened,” Snowden said.
“I was half expecting him to do what he did but I knew once one horse got beside him he would did deep and that’s what happened.
“If your going to step up against the better horses you’ve got to be able to adapt to different things in races and he did that today and showed a bit of courage in the finish.”
Behind Maybe I in second spot were a number of good runs with Emperor Bonaparte working home strongly for third in front of three more eye catchers Baci Amore, Royal Striker and Predatory Pricer.
Desuetude 55.5kg ($2.35) (K.McEvoy) defeated Maybe I 53kg ($4) (B.Shinn) by a short head with Emperor Bonaparte 55.5kg ($8) (J.Lloyd) three quarters of a length away in third.
