Corey Brown has drawn comparisons between snaring the ride on Gallant Tess in Saturday's Cox Plate and how he joined forces with star Apache Cat.

The suspension of Gallant Tess' regular jockey Jeff Lloyd from Saturday's Caulfield Cup has opened the door for Brown who received the call to ride the David Payne-trained Gallant Tess last night.

"I was in the right place at the right time, it's very similar to how I picked up the ride on Apache Cat," Brown said.

"There was nothing in the mix for me, so I was sitting on the fence waiting for something and then she comes along, so I was very happy to get the call."

Brown landed the ride on Apache Cat after regular jockey Michael Rodd was found to be suffering from fatigue and was sidelined for a few months.

The baldy-faced chestnut went on to win five Group Ones with Brown in the saddle.

"I'm certainly not comparing the horses, just the circumstances surrounding the way I picked up the rides but she's (Gallant Tess) a very nice type and will be right in this race," Brown said.

"It's a shame for Jeff but I'm really looking forward to this ride, it's a great pick-up.

"I'll sit down and have a chat with Jeff about the horse and just find out a little bit more about her and then talk to David when I see him in Melbourne."

Brown will ride Gallant Tess in her Breakfast With The Stars gallop at Moonee Valley on Tuesday.

Gallant Tess comes into the Cox Plate after running third to Theseo after drawing a wide gate in the Epsom Handicap and prior to that she was blocked for a run when third to Mentality in the George Main Stakes.

"I don't know a great deal about her apart from watching her replays but what I have seen of her and the fact she has mixed it with the best, I know she is a serious racehorse," Brown said.

Three starts back Gallant Tess showed her class when she defeated Triple Honour by a length in the Group Two Chelmsford Stakes at Randwick last month.

And she made a stunning weight-for-age debut when beaten a short neck by multiple Group One winner Racing To Win in the Warwick Stakes in August.

"There's no doubt she's been a touch unlucky the last couple of runs but she's still done well despite that, hopefully a few doors will open up for us on Saturday and with a bit of luck she will give them something to worry about
