A date has been set for jockey Hugh Bowman's appeal against the severity of a 27-meeting ban, Racing NSW announced on Monday.
Bowman's appeal will be heard on January 5, almost a month after he was suspended when stewards found him guilty of causing a three-horse fall at Rosehill.
Three jockeys - Blake Shinn, Jeff Lloyd and Peter Robl - were injured when their mounts crashed to the turf during a Sydney midweek meeting on December 10.
Bowman has reportedly engaged high-profile Sydney lawyer Geoff Bellew to represent him at the hearing.
The rider, who partnered wonder filly Samantha Miss to win the Crown Oaks during the Melbourne spring carnival, leads this season's Sydney jockeys' premiership with 39 wins.
Unless he is successful in having the suspension shortened, Bowman will not be able to ride again until February 12.
As it now stands, the suspension rules Bowman out of next month's Magic Millions carnival.
But he would be free to ride at Randwick's February 14 meeting featuring the $150,000 Light Fingers Stakes (1200m) - a Group Two semi-classic slated as a potential return race for Samantha Miss.
