Injured jockey Scott Seamer is determined to be back in action in time to continue his association with New Zealand Derby winner Coniston Bluebird at the Sydney autumn carnival.

Seamer suffered a broken bone up the back of his left heel when thrown from Coniston Bluebird in the mounting yard after winning the $NZ2.2 million Derby at Ellerslie on Monday.

When Seamer dropped the reins to raise his hands in celebration for a photograph Coniston Bluebird took fright and dislodged the Australian jockey.

"I got my arm over the rail to stop myself falling, but my heel went down hard on the asphalt, taking all the pressure down the back of it," Seamer said after he was released from hospital.

"I knew I'd broken something and the doctors have found a break up near the tendons.

"I'll probably be out for about three weeks, but I'll make sure I'm back in plenty of time to ride him in Sydney."

Coniston Bluebird's trainer Bede Murray expects to start the gelding in the Rosehill Guineas on March 28 as his lead-up to the $1.6 million David Jones AJC Derby at Randwick on April 11.
