Champion jockey Shane Dye will be back in the saddle in the coming weeks after overcoming a rib injury that has sidelined him since May 10.  
Dye suffered the injuries in a freak riding mishap at Doomben when his stirrup iron snapped after the race and he was hurled into the turf.

“My ribs have pretty much heeled now,” Dye said.

“I’ve done the same injury three times in the last two years and it takes two or three months for them to heal.

“I’ll be back in Oz next week and will start riding work straight away and kick off at the beginning of August.”:ccccc:

Dye has used the downtime to enjoy some quality time with his two sons, Nicholas and Jack who were part of the reason for his return to Australia earlier this year.

“I’m in America at the moment and Nicholas is with me,” he said.

“I took Nicholas and Jack to New Zealand for a week to see the family then I took Jack back to Sydney and Nicholas and I have come to America.

“We’ve really enjoyed the time together.”

Dye, 41 returned to the Sydney riding ranks in March after spending eight years in Hong Kong.

He has ridden 102 Group One, 90 of which were in Australia and places him third behind George Moore (119) and Roy Higgins (108) on the all-time list.

Dye’s biggest race track successes include a Melbourne Cup on Tawriffic in 1989, a Cox Plate on Octagonal in 1995, and a remarkable four Golden Slippers.
