Talented colt All American is on target for a first-up tilt at the Golden Rose in Sydney after an exhibition gallop at Morphettville on Saturday.

The David Hayes trained colt was a three time winner as a juvenile including the Listed St Albans Stakes and Group 3 Skyline Stakes.

Between those wins was a narrow defeat in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes and a fifth placing two starts back in the Group 1 Golden Slipper.

Hayes sent the now three-year-old around in a 1000m gallop at Morphettville on Saturday, where he scored under a hold over new stablemate Indio Glorioso.

With a good record already in Sydney the $1 million Golden Rose later this month has been pencilled in as a starting point to his spring campaign.

Indio Glorioso, however, may make his Australian debut in the Listed Stakes in Melbourne. Other options, though, including the Penny Edition Stakes or Balakalva Cup.

The former Argentinean galloper, raced by the OTI syndicate, is a two time Group 1 winner over a mile and 2000m before failing in the Argentinean Derby as favourite.

Sydney Cup winner No Wine No Song will be given a barrier trial on Friday before beginning his spring campaign in the Warwick Stakes.

The Group Two Warwick Stakes (1400m) at Warwick Farm on August 23 signals the official start of the Sydney spring.

Trainer Kevin Moses had planned to run No Wine No Song at Rosehill last Saturday but aborted that course when the gelding received 64.5kg.

The seven-year-old was put through his paces in a barrier trial at Warwick Farm on August 1 when he finished at the back of the six horse field.

"It was a nice, quiet trial and he's come through it well and so far has done everything we've wanted him to," Moses said.

"The big weight at Rosehill would have knocked him around too much, I was just looking to get him fit.

"We'll give him another trial on Friday and a week after that we'll run in that Group race (Warwick Stakes)."

Moses, who celebrated his first Group One win as a trainer with No Wine No Song's outstanding Sydney Cup (3200m) performance, said the Melbourne Cup remains the main goal for his seven-year-old.

And he said races like the Group Three Newcastle Cup (2300m) in September and the Metropolitan Handicap in October could be on the cards.

"We've got plenty of options for him, we'll just see how he goes," Moses said.

No Wine No Song enjoyed a great autumn campaign with wins in the Group Three Randwick City Stakes and Group Two Chairman's Hcp (2400m) in the leadup to the Sydney Cup.

No Wine No Song was ridden in the Sydney Cup by Damien Oliver who predicted he would measure up to the great race in November.

Oliver has won two Melbourne Cups on Media Puzzle (2002) and Doriemus (1995).

The Warwick Stakes will also feature the return of Sydney pin-up horse Racing To Win who was put through his paces by race jockey Hugh Bowman in an exhibition gallop at Rosehill yesterday.

The striking grey will be aimed at the George Main Stakes in late September with the Hong Kong Mile in December on the agenda.

Trainer Mick Price is excited about the progress of Group One winner Pompeii Ruler who is on the comeback trail and being aimed at the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups this spring.

Price said the six-year-old was in top shape for his racetrack return in the Memsie Stakes at Caulfield on August 30 after suffering a suspensory ligament injury last spring.

"I think he could do some serious damage this spring," Price said.

"He is feeling well and came off the track last week pig rooting and squealing."

Pompeii Ruler, winner of the 2007 Australian Cup, has traditionally run well fresh but Price said he wasn't training him for a first-up win the Memsie, preferring to take a slow and easy approach to the Cups.

The gelding hasn't raced since finishing fourth to Apache Cat in the Group Two Liston Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on August 18 last year.

Initially Price had hoped to get a run out of Pompeii Ruler in the autumn but three-quarters of the way into his campaign he wasn't convinced the horse was over the injury.

"The leg scanned up good but I decided to put him out to be safe," Price said.

"I think the suspensory was a bit soft last time and I didn't really like the look of it, but I like the look of it now. It is excellent."

Pompeii Ruler was on the losing end of three-way photo to Fields Of Omagh and El Segundo in the 2006 Cox Plate but Price is content at this stage to have Light Fantastic, Alamosa, and possibly Dorabella and Sound Journey, targeting the weight-for-age championship this year.

Pompeii Ruler has earned more than $1.5 million from his 14 starts and his seven wins include the 2006 Liston Stakes and 2006 Group Two Craiglee Stakes (1600m).

His last win came in the weight-for-age Australian Cup (2000m) held on his home track at Caulfield while Flemington was undergoing renovations.

"He is a really furnished gelding now who has not had much racing," Price said.

"He is looking great and the signs are positive.

"I am thinking Caulfield Cup, and possibly Melbourne Cup, with him but he can just gradually progress.

"He has had a soft tissue injury and should be able to come back from it."
