Whobegotyou 以雷霆萬鈞之勢取考菲爾德堅尼

Trainer Mark Kavanagh and jockey Michael Rodd were both blown away by the acceleration Whobegotyou showed to come from well back in the field and easily win Saturday's $1 million Caulfield Guineas.

Rodd was so taken with the victory in the Group One 1600m feature that he compared Whobegotyou to champion US three-year-old Big Brown, the reigning Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes winner.

"It panned out perfectly from the half-mile (800m). I couldn't believe how easily he was going underneath me. He was just doing it too easily," Rodd said.

"I switched him into gear to make sure he didn't drop out too much and as soon as I did he was like Big Brown. He took care of them quite easily."

Rodd said Whobegotyou was the best horse he had ridden.

"Efficient still has a special place in my heart winning the Melbourne Cup on him. I don't know if this horse will run two miles (3200m), but around the mile (1600m) he's pretty scary," he said.

He was also very happy when the gelding drew out, jumping from barrier 11.

"He's a perfect horse to ride, he's all action," he said.

Kavanagh was emotional after the gelding lived up to his awesome 3-3/4 length victory in the Group Two Bill Stutt Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley late last month.

And who could blame him after the ordeal he had to go through on Caulfield Cup day last year when his horse Maldivian, the shortest-priced Caulfield Cup favourite in years, was withdrawn at the barrier after cutting his neck on a piece of TV equipment when he reared up in the stalls.

With that in mind he played down the prospects of Whobegotyou, saying he was never confident in the lead-up to Group Ones at Caulfield.

Asked whether he was now convinced of Whobegotyou, Kavanagh was lost for words.

"The way he cruised up to them ...," he said.

Rodd let the heavily-backed $3 favourite, settle back in 13th place but he had the leaders covered on the home turn before sprinting away to a 3-1/4 length win over Time Thief ($11) with Von Costa De Hero ($12) 1-1/4 lengths away third.

However Kavanagh dismissed thoughts of a Cox Plate start for Whobegotyou.

"We don't want to gut him. He'll run in the AAMI Vase and the (Victoria) Derby," he said.

Whobegotyou, by Dubai World Cup winner Street Cry, was passed in for $17,500 as a yearling at the Classic Sale in Sydney last year but has risen to stardom quickly winning four of his six starts.

Whobegotyou made his race debut with an impressive victory in a two-year-old maiden (1100m) on the Geelong ThoroughTrack in May before progressing straight to town with a win over 1200m at Moonee Valley the following month.

Golden Rose winner Duporth ran home well for fourth Saturday while Carnero came from second last to finish a creditable fifth.
