The authority of Whobegotyou's win in last Saturday's Caulfield Guineas has taken him to a Timeform rating that surpasses some of the best three-year-old winners of the Group One race in the last 30 years.
The ease of his three and a quarter lengths win has been rated superior to the likes of Redoute's Choice, Lonhro and Weekend Hussler.
The globally recognised Australian
Timeform ratings, compiled by Gary Crispe and exclusive to Racing and Sports, have awarded Whobegotyou a rating of 126.
"His winning margin was the largest in the last 25 years, just exceeding that recorded by two previous outstanding winners in Our Maizcay (1995) and Red Anchor (1984) who both had three lengths to spare," Crispe said.
"It was half a length more than the winning margin recorded by Weekend Hussler last year.
Crispe said the win by Whobegotyou was assessed as stronger than the five year average for the Caulfield Guineas with the 2008 renewal coming in at a Timeform rating of 126.
At that level, the merit of Whobegotyou's win was assessed as equal to both Our Maizcay and Red Anchor at 126 and superior to other Guineas winners Redoute's Choice (125), Lonhro (124) and Weekend Hussler (124).
"It is history of course that Red Anchor went on to take the Cox Plate and VRC Derby double, running to a Timeform rating of 127 in his Cox Plate victory," Crispe said.
"Whobegotyou looks an outstanding young galloper in the making.
"His rise in Timeform ratings profile in a short career spanning just six racetrack starts has been spectacular.
"Clearly a race like the Cox Plate is well within his grasp with a 126 rating.
"Both Our Maizcay and Red Anchor contested the Cox Plate after winning the Guineas. Our Maizcay was not a staying type and was well beaten, but Red Anchor was able to take the double."
Current indications are Whobegotyou will take the easier road of the AAMI Vase and AAMI Victoria Derby with a Cox Plate appearance delayed until next year.
