Australian Guineas betting is in disarray due to a fitness cloud over ruling favourite Whobegotyou
Trainer Mark Kavanagh has confirmed that Whobegotyou had been treated for a foot abscess and would not start his autumn program as planned in the Wellington Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday.
Kavanagh said the abscess had burst but the gallops Whobegotyou missed last week ahd forced him to chnage his plans for the three-year-old.
He said a start in the $750,000 Australian Guineas at Flemington on March 7 depends on how the Caulfield Guines winner progresses in the next week.
Kavangha will aim for a 1400m race in two weeks but he said if Whobegotypou gets behind in his Guineas preparation he will scrap his Melbourne program and head to Sydney with the three-year-old.
His training has been restricted to swimming for more than a week.
Kavanagh's Cox Plate winner Maldivian is on target to resume in the Group 1 C.F. Orr Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday.
His rivals are expected to include Sirmione, Zarita, Niconero and Von Costa De Hero.
2007 Cox Plate winner El Segundo will also be nominated but is likely to wait for the Australia Stakes at Moonee Valley on February 14.
