Ambitious General is another high profile galloper on the way to Hong Kong and will not be in action during the upcoming spring carnival.
Trained by Peter Moody, Ambitious General burst to prominence during the autumn when he finished second behind Fiumicino in the G1 AJC Australian Derby and second behind the ill-fated He¡¦s No Pie Eater in the G1 Rosehill Guineas.
His autumn performances gave the indication he was a horse that would play a role in the outcome of races like the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups but when nominations were released for those races yesterday his name was missing.
¡§He¡¦s going to David Hall in Hong Kong,¡¨ Moody said.
¡§The horse is owned over there (¦b¿D¬w®É¤w¸g«Y¡u¦³§@¬°¡v°¨¥D¾Ö¦³)and is in quarantine or going into quarantine.
¡¨He¡¦s a big loss and a horse like him is hard to replace.¡¨
Moody described his team for the upcoming carnival as ¡§moderate¡¨ due to the loss of his "two guns" Ambitious General and Magnus will also be out of play after campaigning through the winter months in the UK.
¡§There¡¦s not to many household names in my team for the carnival,¡¨ he said.
¡§I¡¦d like to think we can unearth one but we¡¦re being very speculative.¡¨
