The highest priced European yearling in five years lit up a cracking second session of Goffs Million Sale. Consigned by last year¡¦s sale topping vendor Staffordstown Stud, the impeccably bred filly (Lot 407) attracted intense bidding before ultimately falling to John Magnier at £á2,400,000. A daughter of Sadler¡¦s Wells, the grey is out of the seven time winning champion Alzao mare Albanova who is an own sister to Dual Group 1 Champion Stakes winner Alborada and closely related to Derby runner up Dragon Dancer.
Earlier in the day a Rock Of Gibraltar filly sent up from Kilcarn Stud fetched £á900,000, selling to De Burgh Farrington for Stephen Harris of Glenview Stud. The filly is from the illustrious Kilcarn family of Flame Of Tara and Salsabil, a family that is no stranger to the sales ring at Goffs.
Another highlight on Day Two was Ashtown House Stud¡¦s good looking Invincible Spirit filly (Lot 371) out of a Stakes placed dam who made £á440,000 when purchased by Newtown Anner Stud. She was followed minutes later by another Kilcarn offering (Lot 373), a Sadler¡¦s Wells half brother to Champion two year old Second Empire who was knocked down to John Magnier for £á380,000.
Strong trade throughout resulted a healthy median which grew to £á80,000 from £á72,000 on the corresponding day last year. Turnover for day two reached £á20,275,000 while average price was £á117,878.
