Montmartre remains a doubt for the Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp in October.

The Aga Khan's colt has not got over his setback following his stunning victory in the Grand Prix de Paris last month and trainer Alain de Royer-Dupre admits they are running out of time.

"Montmartre at this time is not completely OK," said Royer-Dupre.

"It is hard to say if he will run in the Arc, but I think it is difficult. He's not sure to be OK, but there is no decision yet."

However, both the owner and the trainer look to have an able substitute for Europe's autumn showpiece in the unbeaten filly Zarkava, winner of the French 1000 Guineas and Oaks.

"She has started training again on the grass in preparation for the Arc. She will go for the Prix Vermeille first before going to the Arc," the trainer went on.

"We have four and half weeks to the Prix Vermeille. She is in good form and she looks well."

ALAIN DE ROYER-DUPRE has virtually ruled Montmartre out of a tilt at the Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe on October 5.

The Aga Khan's colt was a deeply impressive winner of the Grand Prix de Paris winner at Longchamp after which he was promoted to favouritism for the Arc.

However, speaking at Deauville on Sunday, his trainer said: "We haven't now really got enough time to prepare him for the Arc de Triomphe."

However the trainer does still have a major contender for the Arc in the shape of the brilliant and unbeaten filly Zarkava who is also being prepared for the Arc by way of the Prix Vermeille.

Royer-Dupre said: "Zarkava is just fine."
