Arc-winning jockey Christophe Soumillon could be sidelined for several months following a fall at Nancy on Wednesday afternoon.
According to reports on French racing channel Equidia, Soumillion suffered an open fracture to an elbow in a fall that resulted in racing being delayed at the eight-race meeting.
Soumillon, who was riding Burlada for trainer Carlos Laffon-Parias in a claimer, was in the lead when the filly jinked into the hedge, which serves as the running rail shortly after entering the straight.
Soumillon was thrown back on to the track and was then clipped by another horse in a fall that left him lying on the track for 45 minutes before being taken to hospital in Paris.
Initial reports suggest that he will be out of the saddle for several months and therefore miss the rest of the French season and riding in Hong Kong later in the year.
On Sunday he was due to ride the Aga Khan's Beheshtam in the Prix Niel as part of the colt's preparation for the Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, which Soumillon won on Zarkava last year.
