Getaway 直接跑 Arc; Doctor Dino 有意跑 Canada International 作為來港的熱身
FRANKIE DETTORI is looking forward to the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe after a smooth dress rehearsal aboard Getaway in the Grand Prix de Deauville.
After last year's Arc fourth had scored with a degree of authority in the Group 2 event, Coral and William Hill cut him to a best-priced 12-1 (both from 16) to embellish Andre Fabre's fine record in the Longchamp showpiece. VCBet are as short as 8-1 about the five-year-old.
With Godolphin set to be without a runner in the Arc, Dettori will partner Getaway as he looks for his fourth victory after Lammtarra (1995), Sakhee (2001) and Marienbard (2002).
“Mr Fabre has a very fine record in the Arc and I am lucky to have the ride,” said the jockey. “The horse had a nice break before the race today and he was a little keen but won nicely.
“This was a good confidence-booster and I am sure Mr Fabre will have him spot on for the Arc. He is a big-striding horse and I was confident of success once he reached top gear.”
Getaway's German-trained pacemaker Sommertag did a fine job, taking the field along until early in the straight, when Dettori took over on Getaway.
The pair were immediately challenged by Doctor Dino but the 11-8 favourite had something up his sleeve and went on to win a shade cosily by a length, with German challenger Poseidon Adventure finishing best of all, a length awayin third.
Although Fabre was winning his eighth Grand Prix de Deauville, this was only his second Group-race success at this summer's meeting. Still, he is closing fast on Jean-Claude Rouget at the head of the trainers' table and he appears to have plenty of ammunition, with both Prospect Wells and Russian Cross likely to join Getaway in the Arc.
“This was a good performance as a prep race as he is not 100 per cent fit,” said Fabre. “He will now go directly to the Arc and will run well in the race if the ground is good.”
As Doctor Dino was conceding 4lb to the winner, it was also a good effort, particularly as Richard Gibson was worried that the ground had become soft overnight.
“There were no excuses but this was another day when things wereagainst him,” he said. “All options are open for him for an international autumn campaign.”
On Arc day, October 4, Doctor Dino is likely to be in Toronto running in the Canadian International as a prelude to a return trip to Hong Kong.
