Australian champion Black Caviar has narrowly avoided disaster after jockey Luke Nolen admitted he had "brain fade” in Saturday’s Group I Diamond Jubilee Stakes (6f) at Royal Ascot.

All went to plan for Black Caviar for the first five furlongs of the six-furlong event. The superstar kicked two lengths clear after racing near the pace before Nolen decided the mare had done enough a dozen strides before the post.

Nolen stopped riding Black Caviar (1/6 fav) with 50 metres to run but failed to notice the late charge of the French-trained duo Moonlight Cloud (5/1) and Restiadargent (40/1) until the duo was within a neck of the mare.

Nolen got busy again three strides short of the post before Moonlight Cloud got within a short head of pulling off a major upset in front of a large Australian contingent on course at Royal Ascot.

"I probably just underestimated the testing track,” Nolen told the BBC. "I was kind to her late and she’d had enough and the big engine throttled right down.

"It was quite unfortunate because it is going to overshadow what was a very good win. They are going to talk more about my brain fade than the horse’s fantastic effort.

"We got away with it.”

Moody refused to criticise Nolen’s performance in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes. The leading trainer said the fact Black Caviar won the race mattered more than the margin of victory.

"You have only got to win by quarter of an inch,” Moody said. "That’s what we were prepared to come here and win by and we have got the job done.

"We never expect dominance. We have never asked her for dominance. She gets the job done and we are more concerned with her next run than we are today.

"We are extremely proud of her. She’s 22 for 22 and it has never been about dominance.”

Australian-bred sprinter Soul set the early before fighting on bravely to finish fourth in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes in a vast improvement on his last attempt at Group I level when last in the Golden Shaheen in Dubai.

但從高鏡慢動作重播所見.....輕輕推了幾捱...一出頭...個騎師已經收左工....到最後幾步..見人強勢衝上來....佢先大力推一下....一推之下..由輸了個鼻..到反贏個鼻....對手當時衝到最強..而魚子要再發力.....但一推就有....實在太犀利...........
