LLOYD Williams has purchased high quality UK stayer Sea Moon.
Williams suggested that Sea Moon, winner of the Group 2 Hardwicke Stakes during Royal Ascot, where he defeated Dunaden, Red Cadeaux, Jakkalberry and Fiorente, may be an Australian Cup contender.
Asked if Sea Moon, formerly trained by Sir Michael Stoute, could be an Australian Cup starter, Williams replied: “Maybe”.
Sea Moon was a late scratching from the Hong Kong Vase last month when a favourite for the Group 1 race.
The five-year-old contested the Prix de L’Arc de Triomphe where he finished eighth behind Solemia.
As a 3YO, Sea Moon took a World Thoroughbred rating of 121.
Racing Victoria chief handicapper Greg Carpenter said he expected when the World Thoroughbred Rankings were released next week that Sea Moon would take a mark of at least 121.
Carpenter described Sea Moon as a “high quality horse” who contested the Arc and the King George V1 and Queen Elizabeth Stakes after his Hardwicke Stakes victory.
“His form is very good,” Carpenter said.
