Lester Piggott is raring to go ahead of the rescheduled raceday named in his honour at Newmarket tomorrow.

Piggott was unwell and his day had to be cancelled in May, but he made a visit to the track yesterday morning to see the “Lester The Legend” display being assembled in one of the marquees.

The legendary jockey rode seven Classic winners on the Rowley Mile and each race at the weekend is named after one of them.

Piggott’s daughter Tracy will conduct interviews from the winner’s enclosure with the likes of Sir Peter O’Sullevan and Peter Walwyn, while many of his family members are expected to attend.

The man himself will present a number of trophies during the afternoon.

“The weather forecast is very promising and it should be a fantastic day,” said Newmarket’s managing director, Lisa Hancock.

“Newmarket has never staged a day like this before and Lester is really looking forward to it. He’s in great form.”
