Friday, 28 March 2008 Chickens king Bob Ingham has appointed Rosehill horseman Chris Waller as his new trainer.
A former New Zealander, Waller has made giant strides in the Sydney training ranks over the past six years culminating in last
season's effort when he finished fifth in the metropolitan trainers premiership behind John Hawkes, Gai Waterhouse, Guy Walter and John O¡¦Shea.
¡§It¡¦s unbelievable, just a dream,¡¨ Waller said.
¡§I¡¦m obviously very honoured.
¡§As you could imagine when you get a message saying please phone Bob Ingham, you pick up the phone and say is Mr Ingham there please and say it¡¦s Chris Waller speaking and I got a bit tense but he made me feel very comfortable.
¡§We¡¦ll make sure we deliver for them and give them plenty of fun.¡¨
Ingham Bloodstock agreed to the sale of all the Woodlands horses to Darley Australia earlier this week but the Ingham family will continue to race three horses, headlined by Hoystar, and those horses will be transferred to Waller¡¦s Rosehill stables in the coming days.
On Monday, Waller will meet with Bob Ingham to discuss the new partnership and it is anticipated the purchase of yearlings at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale and other upcoming sales will be on the agenda.
The Waller success story has not only been noticed by Bob Ingham with Dynamic Syndications giving him a $700,000 colt by Redoute¡¦s Choice out of Touched By God to train from the Magic Millions Premier Sale which concluded yesterday.
¡§We got six horses to train from the Magic Millions and it is a very exciting time ahead,¡¨ said Waller.
¡§We are building a very strong team of horses and I have great staff so I am confident we will continue to deliver the results our owners, both new and old want.¡¨
