Champion colt Sebring has been ruled out for the spring after scans revealed bruising to his right fore cannon bone.

Trainer Gai Waterhouse said the problem was related to a growth spurt and that the Golden Slipper winner would be spelled for two months before making a return.

"He has grown a hand and put on 80kg and looks amazing, however, on the downside, being such a big strong colt and such a valuable stallion we are erring on the cautious side," Waterhouse said.

"Fundamentally the colt is being given time to mature for his campaign in the autumn as a three-year-old before retiring to Widden for Stud duties next year."

Sebring, who was purchased recently by Widden Stud for a reported $30 million, underwent a bone scan at the Randwick Equine Centre on Wednesday which identified an area of stress-related bone bruising in the right-fore distal cannon bone.

The More Than Ready colt won the first two legs of the two-year-old triple crown when he claimed the Golden Slipper and Sires' Produce Stakes.

He narrowly failed to make it a clean sweep when he was beaten a short head by Samantha Miss in the Champagne Stakes and is bound to be named Australia's champion two-year-old this season.
