Group One-winning stayer No Wine No Song continues to make a steady recovery from recent bowel surgery and is expected to return to work in December.

Last month he was found gravely ill and rushed to the Randwick Equine Centre and operated on immediately to repair a displaced bowel, ending trainer Kevin Moses' plans to run him in the Melbourne Cup.

No Wine No Song has returned to Moses' stables after losing 18kg following the surgery and is coming along nicely.

"We've just been taking care of him and then he'll head off to the owners' property at Goulburn on Friday ... we expect him to be back at work around December," Moses said.

"His small intestine had slipped under his colon and we've got no idea how he did it but the operation was a complete success and he's going very well."

Moses, who won three Sydney premierships as a jockey, celebrated his first Group One victory as a trainer when No Wine No Song won the Sydney Cup (3200m) in May.

The major race win capped off a brilliant campaign for No Wine No Song who claimed the Group Two Chairman's Handicap (2600m) a week earlier and two runs prior to that had too much class for his rivals in the Group Three Randwick City Stakes (2000m).
