Encosta De Lago-Milanova filly
Encosta De Lago unearthed another promising filly at Warwick Farm today as Australia's Champion Sire's list of outstanding foals born this season continues to grow, highlighted by a filly from the $5million mare Milanova.
Guy Walter is no stranger to success with the fairer sex, adding a new stakes win when Bernicia scored in the Listed Summoned Stakes on Saturday, and he looks to have another filly that can measure up to stronger races in the shape of Rapala.
A daughter of Encosta De Lago from the unraced King Of Kings mare Kahuna's Girl, Rapala was coming off a cavalier win at Goulburn and easily made the step up to city grade in today's 1300m event at Warwick Farm.
Rapala was purchased by Vin Cox Bloodstock for $80,000 as a Magic Millions weanling in 2006, before Corumbene Stud offered her at the 2007 MM January Sale, where she was passed in at $140,000.
Racing in the colours of Corumbene Stud today, the decision to pass her in may well prove a shrewd one, with Walter indicating he feels the filly looks up to better races.
Encosta De Lago has once again put himself in the frame to be Australia's leading sire this season, currently in third place to Viewed and Redoute's Choice, with his haul spearheaded by six individual stakes winners, including the G1 victors Douro Valley, Newport and Northern Meteor, who is the stallion's highest rated
Timeform runner this season, rated at 122.
Recent additions to the Encosta De Lago foal count include progeny from a number of outstanding mares.
None are more notable than the filly from Australia's highest ever priced mare, Milanova.
Coolmore paid $5million for Milanova (Danehill-L'On Vite) in foal to Encosta De Lago this year and the resulting foal was born in August.
Encosta De Lago-Larrocha filly
Other valuable foals born in recent times for the stallion include a full-sister to this month's G2 Wakeful Stakes winner Rocha (another stakes winning filly prepared by Guy Walter), from the Danehill mare Larrocha.
Encosta De Lago-Vouvray
Encosta De Lago also has new foals from G1 Queensland Oaks winner Vouvray, G1 winner Foxwood, the beautifully-related Twyla and Push A Venture, with that colt being a full-brother to multiple G1 placed Glowlamp.
