Mornington trainer Shane Stockdale proved he is a shrewd judge when Kwassa Kwassa scored on debut at Moonee Valley today.

Stockdale couldn't fault the gelding as a weanling and paid just $4500 at the Inglis sales in Melbourne.

Since then, Kwassa Kwassa's older half brother Bank Robber has made the youngster look cheap and he proved Stockdale's judgement was spot on, and increased his value further, with an impressive win.

After sitting second off leader Happy Knockout, he wobbled around the turn but quickly set up a winning break.

Carlton Forward, who also wobbled around the bend, ran on well out wider but could manage only second while expensive filly You're Beautiful worked home into third.

Stockdale, who only prepared his first metropolitan winner at Moonee Valley last Friday week, was not only thrilled to saddle up his first Saturday winner but to immediately be in the black with the bargain buy.

“He's done a fair bit of work at home so he was ready for today. His work was good enough, we thought we'd have a go and he's come through.”

Stockdale said he couldn't work out why the weanling was so cheap and said he couldn't fault him, judgement that today proved instant reward with his $36,000 winners cheque
