Kerrin McEvoy wasted little time locking down the ride on Bonneval in the Caulfield Cup only hours after being defeated by the Kiwi mare aboard Hartnell in Sunday’s Underwood Stakes at Caulfield.
With Hugh Bowman unable to get down to 52.5kg and Damian Lane committed to Humidor, McEvoy swooped on the opportunity to lock in the prized mount for the $3 million race.
The deal was secured on Sunday night, leaving James Cummings and the Godolphin team to look for a new rider for Hartnell in the Caulfield Cup.
