The rush by prominent breeders and studs to buy into Golden Slipper colts before they race in Saturday's $3.5 million classic continued today when Arrowfield Stud finalsied a deal for a 50 percent share in the David Hayes-trained All American.
All American joins Sidereus as the second Golden Slipper runner to figure in a stud deal this week after Nathan Tinkler's big spending Patinack Farm purchased a 50 percent share in that colt on Monday.
Arrowfield's John Messara said the current ownership group will retain a 50% interest in All American but he will race in the Golden Slipper in Arrowfield's black and gold colours.
“His future will be managed by Arrowfield,” Messara said.
Messara said All American will continue to be trained by David Hayes and will stand at Arrowfield Stud at Scone at the completion of his racing career.
All American, a son of top shuttle sire Red Ransom, has won three of his four starts.
He suffered his only defeat when a close second to stablemate Reaan in the G1 Arrowfield Blue Diamond Stakes at Caulfield but bounced back to score in the G3 Skyline Stakes at Randwick at his Sydney debut.
Messara said he was attracted to All American by his pedigree.
“I think All American is a very prospective colt and being by Red Ransom out of a Strawberry Road mare he is relatively free of Northern Dancer.
“However, with the sire influences of Roberto and Mr Prospector close up, he is well served to make a stallion.
“There are outstanding performers in every generation of his pedigree and he looks like a colt for the future.
“I hope he runs well in the Golden Slipper but I really think he's more of a three year old.
“What he's done to date has been achieved purely on class.”
All American becomes the second son of Red Ransom to join the Arrowfield stallion list beside Charge Forward, a second placegetter in the 2004 Golden Slipper.
“Arrowfield is keen on the prospects of our young stallion Charge Forward and All American is the other outstanding colt by Red Ransom from that stallion's 146 winners in Australia,” Messara said.
