Seven-times Group 1 winning Cape Cross mare Seachange will be retired to stud and go to Zabeel when she returns home from her European finale in September.
Rick Williams, Racing Manager for owner Dick Karreman, told Racing & Sports' Gary Crispe that this would be the five-year-old mare's final campaign.
Seachange will run in Saturday week's Group 1 Golden Jubilee (1200m) at Royal Ascot before a decision is made on her next outing, with options including the July Cup (1200m) or a G1 mile event for fillies and mares during the Newmarket July carnival.
“She's booked to Zabeel and she arrives back in New Zealand on the 7th of September and she will go to him whenever she's ready,” Williams said.
Seachange's seven Group 1 wins include four this season and her earnings sit at $1.5million.
At her latest outing, the mare ran a close up 6th in the G1 Dubai Duty Free behind subsequent international Group 1 winner Jay Peg.
“It was the EI in Australia that really started this whole thing rolling, because we were going to go over and run her in the Orr and the Futurity as we had the year before,” Williams said.
“We ran 2nd in the Futurity and a very close 5th in the Orr and those races looked very winnable (this year), but of course, we couldn't get out of Australia if we went there.
“(Dubai International Racing Manager) Martin Talty had been talking to me in Hong Kong in December about the possibility of going to Dubai and she got an invitation so we thought if we go to Dubai, we might as well come onto England.
“We were happy with the Dubai Duty Free run – she didn't win it but she certainly measured up - so we thought we'd come on here and so far it's worked for us and if we don't get any rain we hope she'll be competitive.”作者:
