A gallant Takeover Target has filled yet another placing at Royal Ascot by finishing a close second to shock Spanish-trained winner Equinano in the Group One King's Stand Stakes.

Equiano, a 22-1 chance, upet the Australian champion when he led the field down the grandstand side over the straight five furlongs under French jockey Olivier Peslier.

Takeover Target, winner of the King's Stand Stakes in 2006 and fourth last year, sat off the winner for most of the trip and could not reel him over the last half furlong, going down by a half length.

However Takeover Target's effort saw him firm in betting for Saturday's G1 Golden Jubilee Stakes over six furlongs, a race he will contest for the third successive year after finishing third in 2006 and second last year.

Takeover Target, starting second favourite at 6/1, finished a neck in front of the 15/8 favourite Fleeting Spirit.

Australia's other runner Magnus disappointed in his final career start when he could finish only eighth after being in a striking position with two furlongs to run.

Takeover Traget's trainer Joe Janiak said he is now looking forward to the Golden Jubilee, predicting the rising nine-year-old would be a better horse on Saturday.

"The horse blew up a little bit so there should be improvement to come and the extra distance of the Golden Jubilee will suit him too,” Janiak said.

"Jay (Ford) said at the two he had the winner but the winner just wouldn't give up.

"He doesn't have as much speed as he used to but he still ran a superb race for an old bloke."

The three-year-old Equiano is trained by Mauricio Delcher Sanchez and has given Spain a rare international Group One winner.

He won two races in Spain last year as a 2YO before moving to France where he was placed at Maisons-Laffite in his final juvenile start.

He had raced twice in France at Chantilly this term for win at and a second in a Group race.

Peslier said: "He ran very well in France last time and today was the big ambition.

"The horse has a lot of speed and he travels well.

“Everything went right for him."

話左晚上凌晨呢d時段多數唔播..shy就一定播.因為受投注賽事一定要播

I didn't see the race....but the programme say that TVN has broadcast the race....(i just only watch 亨利先鋒 in 聖占姆士皇宮錦標 that day via TVN)
