Melbourne trainer Mick Price has sent the owners of New Zealand star Alamosa a glowing report on his progress since his arrival in Victoria.
Price says the multiople Group One winner has not put a foot wrong since the rising four-year-old joined his Caulfield stable six weeks ago.
"Mick is absolutely thrilled with him," said part-owner Bill Gleeson.
"He said he's got a magnificent attitude and is going forward and he's very, very happy with the horse."
"It's all positive at this stage and he's had a couple of runalongs and acquitted himself very well.
"Mick said his disposition is spot on and he can't fault him - he hasn't had one hiccup."
Gleeson's Wellfield Lodge completed a multi-million dollar deal to purchase Alamosa earlier this year with the Palmerston North stud retaining the controlling interest.
Previously trained at Matamata by part-owner Peter McKay, Alamosa was the GI winner as a two-year-old of the Ford Diamond Stakes at Ellerslie.
This season he has twice beaten the older horses at the top level in the G1 Thorndon Mile and the G1 Otaki-Maori WFA.
He also defeated his own age group in the G2 Avondale Guineas and G3 Hawke's Bay Guineas and G3 Wellington Stakes.
Alamosa's spring campaign is aimed at the $3 million Tatts W.S. Cox Plate at Moonee Valley in October.
"He's about five weeks away from a race," said Gleeson.
Alamosa, who has won nine of his 17 starts and more than $700.000, will eventually retire to Wellfield Lodge to stand alongside Handsome Ransom.
Alamosa was recently joined at Price's yard by another dual NZ G1 winner Dorabella.
The G11000 Guineas and G1 Captain Cook Stakes winner joined Price after she was purchased by Hunter Valley-based Kia Ora Stud from Auckland-based property dealer Don Ha.
The New Zealand duo form half of Price's imposing tam he preparing for the Cox Plate together with Australian Guineas winner Light Fantastic and Australian Cup winner Pompeii Ruler.
