Champion sprinter Takeover Target has settled in well at Sydney's Eastern Creek quarantine station, with trainer Joe Janiak saying his star is in high spirits.
Takeover Target arrived from England over the weekend to begin his three-week stay at the quarantine facility in Sydney's west.
The nine-year-old is recovering from a torn suspensory ligament suffered at Royal Ascot in June when he ran fourth to Kingsgate Native in the Group One Golden Jubilee Stakes.
"He arrived on Saturday and just going on what the workers there have told me - he's going well," Janiak said from his Coffs Harbour base on the NSW north coast.
"He travelled well from the UK and is pretty relaxed and at home at Eastern Creek from all reports."
Janiak recently knocked back a $200,000 winner-take-all match race for Takeover Target against the brilliant Apache Cat, with the trainer's main focus on getting his horse back for the Group One Age Classic (1200m) at Flemington in November.
"That's what we're aiming for and at this stage everything's going well but the work starts when he gets out of Eastern Creek," Janiak said.
"I'll probably take him back to Canberra, we've got a spelling paddock there for him, and after that he'll be scanned again and we'll just go from there and follow the vets' advice."
Janiak was impressed by Takeover Target's half-brother Predatory Pricer who atoned for a disappointing debut with an outstanding win at Kembla Grange on Wednesday.
"He goes good, it looks like they've got a very nice horse on their hands," Janiak said of the Paul Murray-trained three-year-old.
