Dual Group One winner Sarrera has undergone a blood transfusion after suffering a ruptured spleen in a trackwork accident.
The eight-year-old is currently being treated at the Melbourne University Veterinary Clinic at Werribee.
Trainer Mike Moroney's stable manager Anthony Feroce said Sarrera was "double barrelled" by a stablemate on Friday morning at the training track at Flemington.
"He was in what we call the changeover area. There were a lot of horses there and another horse double barrelled him," Feroce said.
"He had a blood transfusion to stop the bleeding. He has stabilised but is still not out of the woods.
"The next 24 to 48 hours will be critical."
Sarrera had been scheduled to resume in Saturday's Group Two Memsie Stakes won by Weekend Hussler at Caulfield.
The gelding reached a peak late in his career winning successive Group One races during the autumn - the Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) at Randwick and the Doomben Cup (2020m).
Sarrera, who overcame a career threatening tendon injury as a three-year-old, has raced 33 times for eight wins and eight placings, earning more than $1 million prizemoney.
Prior to his Queen Elizabeth Stakes win, Sarrera's biggest success was in the 2007 Warrnambool Cup.
