Chris Waller has enjoyed much success over the past couple of years training European imports and has just returned from another buying trip to England with seven horses.
Melbourne trainer Lee Freedman followed Waller's lead and bought six horses at Newmarket as he attempts to rebuild his stable's staying ranks.
Waller bought a mixture of stayers but also went for speedier types.
"We bought four two-year-olds and three three-year-olds ranging in price from $50,000 to $350,000," Waller said.
"They are all colts and geldings. We bought speed as well as middle distance and staying types and one is a full brother to Milan.
"The intention is to win Saturday class races and then see how far they can go.
"The prizemoney here makes it worthwhile."
A son of Sadler's Wells, Milan's best performance was his three-quarter length second to Fantastic Light in the 2001 Breeders Cup Turf (2400m).
Freedman's brother Anthony and vet Johnnie Walker went to Newmarket with a $1 million budget to buy stayers.
Freedman admitted he had taken note of Waller's success rate and predicted more Australian trainers would follow the lead.
The winner of five Melbourne Cups, Freedman found himself without a horse good enough to compete this year while seven Europeans made the field.
Bauer finished the closes of seconds to the Bart Cummings-trained Viewed while the best of the others was Profound Beauty fifth and Mad Rush seventh.
