Young Darwin riding star Glen Davis will move to Melbourne to join the David Hayes stable on loan for three months.

The 24 year old late starter will be based at Flemington after an agreement between Hayes and his master Shane Clarke.

Davis, who began his career in western NSW, has ridden 67 winners and was runner-up in the Darwin premiership at Fannie Bay last season.

However the apprentice can still claim 3kg in metropolitan races in Melbourne, an advantage Hayes is keen to exploit over the summer.

Darwin wins count as provincial and not metropolitan victories for apprentice riders.

Davis, who will complete his apprenticeship next June, can claim 2kg at Victorian provincial meetings.

Hayes will be missing his number one jockey Craig Williams for several weeks.

Williams is riding in an invitation jockey series in Japan and is then travelling to Europe for a family holiday.
