John Messara and his partners in Alinghi have had a change of heart and rather sending the multiple Group 1 winner back to Hussonet, she has instead gone to Redoute's Choice this season.
Messara was desperate to get a Hussonet colt from the Encosta De Lago mare.
A successful colt from that mating would make into a valuable stallion prospect, as it would be totally free of Danehill.
Earlier in the spring he said Alinghi would go back to Hussonet if she produced another filly.
However, plans have now changed.
Alinghi did produce a bay Hussonet filly last month, following on from her 2007 filly foal by the same sire, but connections have instead opted to give her a chance with Redoute's Choice.
“We had two goes at getting a colt with Hussonet and came up with two fillies, so she's gone to Redoute's Choice instead this time,” Messara said, confirming that Alinghi was in foal to the Danehill stallion.
Redoute's Choice was in fact the original choice for Alinghi at her stud debut in 2006 but after failing to go in foal to him, Hussonet got the call up.
While disappointed at not being able to crack a colt from her two Hussonet matings, Messara was in raptures over this year's filly.
“Her latest foal is absolutely tremendous,” he said.
Alinghi won 11 races and more than $3.5million in prizemoney, highlighted by the Blue Diamond, Thousand Guineas, Robert Sangster and Newmarket Handicap at Group 1 level.
Her siblings have been highly sought after at yearling sales ever since her emergence, with her dam Oceanfast (Monde Bleu) last three yearlings selling for $2.6million, $1.4million and $2.2million.
Messara also confirmed that Golden Slipper and multiple Group 1 winner Miss Finland was safely in foal to Hussonet.
