Melbourne Cup runner-up Bauer is under investigation for treatment he may have received before the $5.5 million race at Flemington on November 4
Racing Victoria stewards are investigating a report that the Luca Cumani-trained Bauer received a treatment that may infringe Australian racing rules in the week before the race.
If there is positive evidence Bauer could be disqualified and his connections lose the $835,000 prizemoney he received for finishing second by a nose to Viewed.
Chief steward Terry Bailey confirmed an investigation had been opened into aspects of Bauer's preparation for the Melbourne Cup at the Sandown quarantine centre.
Cumani, one of England's leading trainers, has been told there are no issues with the post-race swabs taken from Bauer after the Melbourne Cup.
Bauer was in Australia for almost a month before he ran in the Melbourne Cup.
Cumani 's daughter Francesca supervised the preparation of the stayer until her father arrived in Melbourne in the 10 days before the Cup.
Any treatment of Bauer before the Cup was undertaken by vets appointed to the international horses by Racing Victoria.
Bailey said an inquiry cannot be held until Bauer's Australian owner Terry Henderson returns to Melbourne from overseas.
The inquiry will focus on whether Bauer received a pre-race treatment that under the rules should have been reported and may have prevented him from running in the Melbourne Cup.作者:
