Crack Group One performer Alamosa has begun his build-up for his final racing campaign before he retires to stud in New Zealand.
The New Zealand-owned star, who will stand at Wellfield Stud, has returned to trainer Mick Price's Caulfield stable to prepare for his autumn swansong.
"He'll trot and canter for a few weeks and then we'll sort his program out," said Wellfield principal Bill Gleeson.
"At this stage we're looking towards Sydney at Easter and a couple of cracks at Group Ones there."
Likely targets for Alamosa in Sydney will be the Doncaster Handicap and Queen Elizabeth Stakes.
Gleeson heads the syndicate which purchased Alamosa earlier this year, principally for stud duty at his Palmerston North operation.
Alamosa was the three-time G1 winner in New Zealand of the Ford Diamond Stakes, Thorndon Mile and the Otaki-Maori WFA before his purchase and transfer to Price in Melbourne.
The move paid off handsomely when the four-year-old won the G1 Toorak Handicap at Caulfield in October.
Alamosa had only one more spring start and was spelled after he finished seventh in the G1 Cox Plate at Moonee Valley.作者:
