Noel Callow is returning to Australia after dominating the riding ranks in Singapore.
The flambouyant jockey has informed the Singapore Turf Club of his decision, effective immediately, and will return to Australia next week.
Callow said his constant battle with weight had played a major part in the decision and hopes to have a couple of months off when he returns.
“I have loved my time here in Singapore,” reports the Singapore Turf Club. “It's an outstanding place to live and the racing is great and just getting better all the time.
“But the constant battle with my weight has finally taken its toll on me. I don't think I am doing justice to myself or my mounts the way I'm feeling at the moment.
“I'm going to head back to Australia and take a couple of months off and get myself mentally refreshed and then look at getting my weight back in check.
“When I get everything sorted out back in Australia I would like to think I could have another attempt at riding here in Singapore.”
Callow revealed that recent suspensions had taken their toll on his body and it was getting harder and harder to come back from them.
“I get a suspension and go away for a few days and just stack on the weight,” he said.
“I then have to work doubly hard to get that weight off. It takes its toll and the last couple of months have been really taxing.”
Callow has been a hit on the Singapore racing scene. In his two seasons riding in Singapore, Callow notched 172 winners from 675 rides at a strike rate of 25.48%.
He became the first rider there to win more than 100 races in a season.
His biggest success came in last year's Group 1 Singapore Derby over 2000m when he guided Top Spin to victory.作者:
