HONOLULU, the impressive winner of last year's Doncaster Cup, has been retired to the French National Stud.
He has joined Khalkevi, Roman Saddle and Network on the stallion roster at Le Lion d'Angers.
A son of Montjeu, Honolulu is out of the Prix Saint-Alary winner Cerulean Sky, a three-parts sister to last year's Irish Oaks heroine Moonstone.
Trained by Aidan O'Brien for Susan Magnier, Michael Tabor and Derrick Smith, he was unraced at two, but at three won two races over 1m3f and 1m4f and finished second to Purple Moon in the Ebor and third behind Lucarno in the St. Leger.
At four he won the Queen Alexandra Stakes at Royal Ascot, and was a four-length winner ofthe Doncaster Cup. His last race was the Melbourne Cup in November, in which he helped set a strong pace with his stablemates Alessandro Volta and Septimus before weakening and finishing lame.
The French National Stud has set his fee at £á1,200 for 2009.§@ªÌ:
