Last year's controversial Melbourne Cup runner-up Bauer has broken down and won't be back for this year's spring carnival.
Bauer injured a tendon in trackwork at English trainer Luca Cumani earlier this week and will be sidelined for at least a year.
“The injury is quite high up in the offside front tendon. It’s not good,” part-owner Simon O’Donnell said.
Bauer ran home strongly for second, beaten a nose, by the Bart Cummings-trained Viewed in last year’s Cup.
Controversy followed when Racing Victoria Limited stewards learned Bauer had been treated with shockwave therapy just five days before the race. Such treatment is not allowed within seven days of a race.
The investigation was closed on legal advice because the vet who administered the treatment was sanctioned by RVL.
Bauer has not raced since last year’s Cup and connections had focused everything around coming back for another tilt at the race this year.作者:
