Pat Quinn, a respected country-based trainer, has died as a result of injuries sustained during a stabling incident at Wednesday Canterbury race meeting.
Quinn, 63, suffered a heart attack as he was rushed to St George Hospital with serious chest injuries.
Based at Port Macquarie after shifting his stable from western Sydney, Quinn was attending to his runner Insensitive when the horse pushed him into a stable rail.
The veteran horseman was trapped before being assisted by a strapper but died in transit to hospital.
"Pat was one of the most likeable blokes in racing and was held in very high regard by all his peers," Peter V'landys, chief executive for Racing NSW said.
"Pat was an outstanding racehorse trainer and did not receive the accolades he deserved. Our hearts go out to the Quinn family at this terrible time."
Quinn trained a number of top horses during his career including outstanding sprinter Legal Agent who won six stakes races including the Group III Premiere Stakes and Missile Stakes.
Quinn last winner was Rivagio who scored at Grafton during the carnival on July 12.
Quinn is survived by Gail and three children, Craig, Mark who trains at Wyong and Tracy.
