Horse of the Year Zenyatta was successfully covered by classic winner Bernardini in Kentucky on Wednesday.

Zenyatta made the short 10 minute journey from Lane's End Farm, where she is boarded on behalf of her owner-breeders Jerry and Ann Moss to be covered by Bernardini at Darley Stud.

A. P. Indy stallion Bernardini, whose first crop last year included Group 1 winners A Z Warrior and Biondetti, was chosen for the popular mare's first mating.

Zenyatta's website blog stated: "We got rave reviews! It all went very well.

“In horse terms, it was 'one jump and a very good cover' - meaning that everything went perfectly in our first meeting.

"Zenyatta was unbelievably professional, especially for a maiden mare. It was all nice and easy and went perfectly."

The Zenyatta website is maintained by Dottie Ingordo Shirreffs, racing manager for the Mosses and wife of trainer John Shirreffs, who directed Zenyatta's career to 19 wins and one second in 20 career starts.

Earlier this week, the 2009 Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra was was bred to two-time Horse of the Year Curlin.

信雅達首胎流產

另一方面，20戰19勝的美國傳奇馬后「信雅達」，退役後展開配種生涯，上月23日與油王穆罕默德酋長名下的 Bernardini 交配成孕，可惜只能維持短短一星期便宣布流產，胎兒不保。



「信雅達」於Lane's End養胎，據牧場經理 Mike Cline 表示，此駒今次情況其實與人類懷孕相似，發生這件事當然非常不幸，不過也非罕見例子。幸好「信雅達」心境很開朗，身體健康狀況一切良好，稍後將安排牠再接受 Bernardini 另一次交配。
