Felix Coetzee – (Rocket Man) – 1st – “He was sensational. It’s a privilege to ride him. I took my time with him, when they pushed up inside him, I was never worried. These champions help you, they tell you what to do. He had a lovely jump and took me into the race. I’m just the guy who sits on top.”
Jose Verenzuela (Eclair Fastpass) – 2nd – “He broke well, and gave me a great run. The winner is a champion, but I was very happy with my horse’s run.”
Saimee Jumaat (Perfect Pins) – 3rd – “It was a big buzz and a great result for Singapore. He surprised me a little. I thought Sacred Kingdom and Green Birdie would be the ones chasing Rocket Man and here I was in a photo for second with Eclair Fastpass. He ran out of his skin.
Vlad Duric(Ghozi) – 4th - My horse ran very well, but it was very rough in the straight, and he met trouble there. I should have finished second.
Joao Moreira (Powerful Ruler) – 5th - He ran very well, he met a little trouble in the race, but I was happy with his effort.
Glen Boss (Sacred Kingdom) – 6th - “There were no excuses, he had a perfect run, but there was no finish today.”
Brett Prebble (Green Birdie) – 7th - “The draw counted against him. He had to give them too big a start. He did try hard and really he wasn’t all that far off second in a tight finish.”
Steven Arnold (Capablanca) - 8th - “He ran really well but Rocket Man was in a league of his own. There was a group of us there for second and there is life in the old boy still.”
Danny Beasley (Better Be The One) – 9th - “He raced upside down to how he normally does, as we tried to take advantage of his draw. He wanted to over race and lay out. He’s had a long preparation and probably come to the end.”
Royston Ffrench (Happy Dubai) – 10th - “Unfortunately he just wasn’t good enough on the day. Rocket Man is a great champion.”
SINGAPORE AIRLINES INTERNATIONAL CUP – JOCKEY QUOTES
Glyn Schofield (Gitano Hernando) – 1st - “It helped that he was loaded in the gate late, as he can get a bit fractious. We wanted to make plenty of use of him as he has stamina. Herman (Brown) has done a great job with him – he’s one of the best trainers in the world.”
Bernard Fayd’Herbe (River Jetez) – 2nd - “No real excuses, she’s run a very good race. The pace which was a bit stop/start, I was always in a good position and she stayed on really well.”
Darren Beadman (Irian) – eq 3rd – “He got himself stirred up pre-race, which didn’t help, but he had a fair run in transit and was probably getting home as well as anything with the pace against him.”
Joao Moreira (Waikato) – eq 3rd – “It was a great run. I was a little held up on the home turn but then he got through. He was a little tired getting to the line but he held on bravely. I have to thank Laurie Laxon for the opportunity for riding in the race.
Gerald Mosse (Chinchon) – 5th - “He ran very well. He got very hot before the race, but broke OK, but got no cover, and the pace was too slow. He got a bit tired in the last 200 metres, but he gave me his best.”
Glen Boss (Risky Business) - 6th – “He ran very well, but would have been better suited by more give in the ground.”
Jamie Spencer (Wigmore Hall) – 7th – “He’s got no early gate speed and the slow early pace didn’t do us any favours. We were in trouble after that.”
Matthew Chadwick (California Memory) - 8th – “He jumped too well, which meant we were closer than planned. He was bumped and pushed out wider on the first turn. He took a hold and I had to let him go forward, as I wasn’t going to get any cover in any case.”
Olivier Doleuze (Royal Bench) – 9th – “I was always sandwiched between horses. There was 1cm of space on either side. He made some ground from the back but he got tired in the end.”
Richard Hughes (Presvis) – 10th - “He slipped on the first bend and wasn’t suited by the slow pace. He was caught wide, and didn’t act on the surface. The ground was a bit loose.”
Soo Khoon Beng (New Rose Wood) – 11th – “She was hard to settle early and then she travelled okay. But at the 600m, another horse on his outside banged her and she took a check. It was quite hard for her to run on from there.”
Azhar Ismail (Fatkid) –12th -“I think the Queen Elizabeth II Cup race was too close to this race. He didn’t travel as well as he did in the QEII Cup. All he needs now is a freshen-up and he will be all right.” 作者:
