FRANKIE DETTORI has been offered the ride on an American trained challenger at the Breeders' Cup after leading West Coast trainer Mike Mitchell disclosed he wanted the rider's services on Church Service.
Mitchell is targeting two runners at the inaugural Breeders' Cup Marathon, Big Booster and Church Service, a Grade 3 winner at a mile but who has done much of his running at a 1m4f, the distance of the Marathon.
The trainer said Rafael Bejarano has the mount on Big Booster, while he has been in the process of lining up Frankie Dettori to ride Church Service.
The Marathon will be Church Service's first start since Aug. 23, when he finished fourth in the Grade 2 Del Mar Handicap.
Big Booster last raced on July 30, and was third in the $150,000 Cougar II Handicap at Del Mar.
Church Service won the Grade 3 Dallas Turf Cup on May 26 following a two-month layoff. In his previous start, he was beaten a nose in the Grade 3 Tokyo City at 1 1/2 miles at Santa Anita on March 29.
Dettori, Europe's most successful rider at the Breeders' Cup with six victories, could already have commitments in the Marathon as if Godolphin aren't represented he could partner Sixties Icon, for whom the race is an option if he doesn't get into the field for the Breeders' Cup Turf.
