Samantha Miss 唔跑打比轉跑橡樹

Samantha Miss will press on to the VRC Oaks with trainer Kris Lees happy with how she has come through her third in the Cox Plate.

Her attempt to become just the second three-year-old filly to win the weight-for-age championship came unstuck at the final turn yesterday when she wobbled onto the wrong leg and went wide.

But she settled down on straightening and momentarily looked like a threat to Maldivian before finishing third with Zipping splitting the pair.

"She didn't disgrace herself and ran well as I knew she would," Lees said.

"She's pulled up really well.

"We'll take it day by day but the Oaks is still on the agenda."

Samantha Miss was today the $2.25 favourite for the Oaks (2500m) on November 6 ahead of Cats Whisker who was all but ruled out of the race today by trainer Mark Kavanagh.

Glen Boss put himself through a testing campaign to reach the 47.5kg Samantha Miss carried in the Cox Plate and said she got on the wrong leg for a few strides at a crucial time.

"She got a bit lost and took a while to balance up when they came around the turn," Boss said.

"She was giving ground at the point when she should have been making ground."

Lees said he thought the wide sweeping Flemington track would be to her liking.

Miss Finland finished sixth in the 2006 Cox Plate before going on to dominate the Oaks 12 days later with a comprehensive victory over Tuesday Joy.
