Sydney filly Samantha Miss confirmed her champion status with a runaway win in the $1 million Group 1 Crown Oaks (2500m) at Flemington.

After being given a lovely run in transit by jockey Hugh Bowman, the three-year-old dispelled any doubts about her ability to run out the Oaks distance, with a dominant three-length victory over Miss Scarlatti and Allez Wonder.

“Until they do it you never know but we were pretty confident,” said an elated trainer Kris Lees.

“She’s great, just one defeat this spring. I’m very proud of her.”

Samantha Miss took her spring record to five wins from six starts with her Oaks victory. Her only defeat came when she finished a brave third in the Tatts Cox Plate (2040m) behind Maldivian.

“It’s a privilege to ride such a filly. I got to the point where I got out early, she just travelled and got there too early but she’s a super filly,” said Bowman.

The sky’s the limit now for Samantha Miss which has now undoubtedly earned the title of the best three-year-old in Australia.

“She’s got that brilliance, she can stay, so she can win anything,” said Lees.

Lees confirmed Samantha Miss would now be aimed at the AJC Oaks in the autumn before another assault on the Cox Plate next spring.
