Outstanding UK apprentice David Probert is heading to Australia for the summer to help English trainer Mark Wallace establish his new stable at Warwick Farm.

Probert will arrive as joint champion UK apprentice with William Buick after the last meeting of the English flat season was held at Doncaster on Saturday.

Probert, 19, needed to ride a winner on the final day to win the title outright but came up short hen his only ride finished second.

Probert and Buick, who are both apprentice to Andrew Balding, finished tied for the title with 50 wins each.

Buick is going to spend the northern winter in Dubai but Probert is heading to Sydney with Wallace, who announced two months ago that he had been granted approval by the AJC to establish a stable at Warwick Farm.

Probert has had a meteoric rise to prominence a he had ridden only one winner at the start of the 2008 season.

"I've had a very good season and lots of help from trainers,” Probert told At The Races.

“It's a dream, winning the apprentice title. It's just gone on and on.

“I'd love to win the title next season, fingers crossed."

Probert will not have to serve a 25-day suspension for a cumulation of riding offences over the season before he can start riding in races in Australia.

Wllace, who trained top English sprinter Benbaun, has been keen to return to Australia since he worked here in the early years of his racing career.

He will have the backing of several local owners and breeders he has known since he first worked in Australia including the Mitchell family of Yarraman Park Stud.

The senior riding premiership in England was a walk over for Ryan Moore, who came back this year after a third placing in 2007 when was sidelined by injuries for most of the year.

Moore rode 186 winners, 59 winners clear of runner-up Richard Hughes.
