Beaten Epsom Handicap favourite Raheeb will face a quick back up at Caulfield on Saturday with a new rider.

Melbourne-baed Chris Symons will replace Danny Nikolic on the Patinack Farm-owned Raheeb in the Group One Yalumba Stakes over 2000m.

The Yalumba will be Raheeb's first start under weight-for-age conditions and will determine if he goes on to a start in the $3 million Tatts W.S. Cox Plate at Moonee Valley on October 25.

Raheeb was a victim of the wet track at Randwick last Saturday hen he struggled in the going, finishing a tiring 13th behind Theseo in the Epsom over 1600m.

He had been outstanding at his previous start on a firm track when he won the Cameron Handicap (1400mn) at Newcastle at only his second start for trainer Anthony Cummings.

Cummings sent Raheeb to Melbourne overnight with other members of his Sydney stable including his beaten AJC Metropolitan favourite Red Lord.

Meanwhile trainer Mark Kavanagh is yet to ecide if his problem horse Maldivian will run in the Yaluimba or step up to 2400m at Caulfield on Saturday in the Winning Edge Presentation Stakes.

Kavanagh is perplexed by Maldivian's disappointing form this spring with three fading unplaced performances since he resumed with a third behind Light Fantastic and Weekend Hussler in the Liston Stakes at Caulfield in August.

The six-year-old ws beaten more than four lengths when he tired to finish sixth behind Littorio in last Satuday's Turnbull Stakes at Flemington.

Maldivian won last year's Yalumba Stakes but Kavanagh is not certain if he will back up on Saturday.

"I'm obviously not happy with the way he's going," Kavanagh said.

"I am covering all my bases and I will be making a decision where I go and what I do with the horse later on in the week."

Kavanagh is expected to apply gear changes, possibly a tongue tie and/or blinkers, to Maldivian for his next start.
