Invasor set for World Cup bid

PLANS for Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum’s two US-based stars were revealed on Monday, with Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Invasor set to do the honours in the Dubai World Cup.
His stablemate, the Belmont Stakes winner Jazil, will reappear after an eight-month layoff on Friday against inferior rivals in a 1m11/2f allowance race at Aqueduct. Jazil, who missed the second half of 2006 after bruising a cannonbone, has been pleasing trainer Kiaran McLaughlin in his recent work.
The race could act as a prep for the Grade 2 Strub Stakes at Santa Anita on February 3 or the Gulfstream Park Handicap on March 3. “He could run in either, or he could be a back-up for Invasor in the Donn Handicap,” said McLaughlin. The latter race, a Grade 1 at Gulfstream on February 3, is the top US prep for the Dubai World Cup, where Invasor will represent McLaughlin, who said only one of the pair would go to Dubai.
LAVA MAN, dominant on dirt in California last season, may also run in Dubai – on turf in the Sheema Classic.
